E101 eQuest Energy Modelling for New Commercial Buildings
eQuest 3.65 is an energy modelling tool used for simulating the energy performance of the large buildings. This software can be used to model buildings covered by Part 3 of the Ontario Building code and its sustainable building requirements, SB10 as well as other energy standards and rating systems. This intensive two-day course focuses the application of eQuest to both high performance new buildings and major building retrofits. This modelling is used to demonstrate both energy and cost savings which can be achieved by varying a facility’s design as well as compliance with provincial laws and municipal energy requirements. This course covers the essentials of building energy modelling and explains how to use modelling to guide design decisions. It provides modelling tips related to the building envelope, plug loads, lighting systems and HVAC systems. Attendees will gain a clear, in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of building energy modelling and will also have an opportunity for hands-on building simulation experience.

E102 HOT2000 Energy Modelling for New Home Development
HOT2000 or H2K is the most popular energy modelling software used for new single family homes covered by the SB12 sustainable building energy performance requirements of Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code. This course is designed to provide intensive training to all professionals involved in the design and development process for new home building projects. This highly interactive course will focus on the multiple options permitted in order to comply with all aspects of the OBC Part 9 SB12 energy performance standards. This class will cover both the performance path and calculated cost savings. Students will gain a deeper understanding of OBC SB12 requirements and learn the fundamentals about HOT2000 energy simulation using the General Mode of HOT2000 version 11.7 in general mode.

E106 NRCan CEA Foundation Level Exam Preparation Training
Natural Resources Canada developed the Certified Energy Addvisor (CEA) program as an initiative to encourage the development of more energy efficient housing in Canada. Unlike an earlier version of the CEA program, the new program has strict qualification standards including mandatory testing of program participants by Natural Resources Canada.
This CEA program incorporates multiple standardized tests, with increasing levels of knowledge and skill. The initial EnerGuide Rating System Foundation Level Exam (V15) assesses a candidate’s foundational competencies including numeracy, new low-rise housing construction methodologies, building renovation, building envelope, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) techniques, building science principles and the house-as-a-system concept.
The main objective of this three day course is to increase the chance that participants will pass the Foundation Level Exam (V15). With over 200 learning objectives in this course, it provides a solid knowledge foundation for participants who plan to take the challenging EnerGuide Rating System Energy Advisor Exam. This exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions with a passing mark of 75% or higher.

E108-08 Renewable Energy Technologies Used in OntarioNext Session: Thursday, January 30
This course will provide participants with an overview of renewable energy and energy storage technologies, with a special focus on those used in Ontario. Applications will include power generation, combined heat and power, and thermal heating and cooling. Real world case studies will be used to describe how the technologies are deployed in a practical way. Relevant government regulations, including Ontario’s new Environmental Activity Sector Registry will be discussed with considerations for Licensed Engineering Practitioners. Off-grid applications will be reviewed for remote northern communities and mining sites.

- Small Business (100 or Fewer Employees): COJG Rebate is 83% of Tuition
- Large Business (Over 100 Employees): COJG Rebate is 50% of Tuition
Public sector employers do not qualify for this rebate.
